Notices are the daily announcements that keep staff (and sometimes students and parents) in the loop about what’s happening at the school each day. Period 4 changed to room 12. Year 10 assembly cancelled. Visitor from XYZ Company in the staff room at lunch. They’re short, time-bound and audience-specific.
The Notices module gives you:
- A daily notices view — what’s on today, accessible from every staff member’s dashboard.
- A daily digest email — auto-sent each morning with that day’s notices, targeted by the recipient’s groups.
- Recurring notices — for things like Year 7 assembly every Monday at 11 am.
- Targeting — by year group, access group, role, audience.
How notices differ from other modules
| Module | Use for |
|---|---|
| Notices | Short, time-bound announcements primarily for staff. Today’s changes, reminders, FYIs. |
| Newsroom | Designed email content for broader communications. Weekly newsletter, term updates. |
| Events | Things on the calendar. Assemblies, meetings, excursions. |
| Co-Curricular alerts | Activity-specific urgent messages. Training cancelled. |
A notice is the lightweight one — quick to write, short-lived, no fancy design.
The building blocks
| Concept | What it is |
|---|---|
| Notice | A single notice with a title, body, date range and audience. |
| Notice occurrence | Each individual day a notice appears. Recurring notices have many occurrences. |
| Attachment | Optional file attached to a notice (PDF, image). |
| Daily digest | The morning email summarising today’s notices for each member. |
| Send day | A configured day of the week when the digest is sent. |
| Exclusion date | A specific date when the digest isn’t sent (school holidays, etc.). |
Who writes notices
Most schools have a few staff who can create notices:
- Office staff — for general announcements.
- Heads of department — for departmental notices.
- Deputy principals — for whole-school changes.
- IT — for service notifications.
Permission to create notices is configured per role. By default, all staff can read; only authorised staff can write.
The day-to-day workflow
- Staff log in in the morning.
- Today’s notices appears on the dashboard with everything relevant to them.
- Daily digest email lands in their inbox at the configured send time (if enabled).
- Throughout the day, additional notices added by office staff appear in real time.
