Adding family-level fees

By mario· May 27, 2026 · Fee Calculator

A family fee is a flat charge that applies once per family, regardless of how many children are enrolled. Use it for line items that don’t scale with child count — capital works levies, parent association fees, building funds.

When to use a family fee vs. a service charge

Type Applies Scales with children?
Year-level fee Per child, per year level Yes
Service charge (on a year-level fee) Per child, per year level Yes, but never discounted
Family fee Per family No

A capital works levy of $500 per family is a family fee. A capital works levy of $500 per child is a service charge.

Adding a family fee

Go to Fee Calculator → Family Fees → Add family fee.

Fields:

  • Amount — the dollar value.
  • Amount label — what parents see in the calculator results (e.g. Capital Works Levy, Parents and Friends Levy).

Save.

More than one family fee

You can add as many family fees as you need — they all show as separate line items in the calculator results and add together for the family total.

Common patterns:

  • One capital works levy.
  • One parents’ association fee.
  • One enrolment fee or registration fee (charged once at start-of-year).

If you need a fee that scales with child count, use a service charge on a year-level fee instead — see Setting up year-level fees.

Editing or removing

Open the family fee from the list and either edit the amount/label or delete the entry. Deletion is immediate — the fee stops appearing on calculations.

How parents see it

Family fees appear at the family-summary level of the calculator results, below the per-child totals. The label you set is the line item parents read — so make it descriptive enough that parents understand what they’re being charged for without needing context.

A note on labels

The amount label is plain text. Keep it short — ideally three or four words — so it fits on a single line in the calculator display. Capital Works Levy is better than Annual Capital Works and Building Maintenance Fund Levy.
